Imagine sitting in front of your screen, ready to put your first money into forex, and wondering: “What if I’m wrong?” This thought has stopped millions of novice traders before they even get started. The answer to this fear has a name: FP Trading demo account.

What a demo account is, is where you can risk virtual money.

For example, pilots don’t fly commercial aircraft directly without hours in a flight simulator. So why would you risk real money without first practicing in an environment that closely simulates and analyzes real markets? That’s exactly what the FP Trading demo account does, it gives you $100,000 or $1000 in virtual funds and lets you do whatever you want, without any risk.

In this guide you will learn everything: how to open the demo in less than 5 minutes, which platform to choose (FP Trading MT4 or FP Trading MT5), what are the real advantages, but also, without filtering, what are the weak points that you will not easily find on other sites.

Some of the links below are affiliate links. This means that if you purchase something or use a platform, I earn a small commission at no cost to you. Thank you for supporting my work!

What is the FP Trading Demo Account and Why Should You Try It?

Let’s start with the basics because it’s worth understanding before you click anywhere.

A forex demo account is essentially a trading simulator in real markets, but with virtual money. The environment is exactly the same as a live account, same prices, same spreads, same tools, but without risking a single euro or dollar from your own pocket

Think of it like a flight simulator for pilots. No serious pilot gets on a plane before spending hours in the simulator. In the same way, no serious trader opens a live account before spending significant time in a demo. This is not an exaggeration, it’s just common sense.

The FP Trading demo account gives you access to more than 1,000 financial instruments, forex pairs, stocks, indices, commodities, crypto, and you can do paper trading without any commitment.

All this with the same technology that professional traders use.

Step by Step: How to Open an FP Trading Demo Account

After you have completed your registration and activated your account at FP Trading, you will go to the home page and go to the Demo category and click the Add New Account button.

What You’ll Find Inside the Demo: A Quick Exploration

The FP Trading demo account is not just a basic simulator. You have access to:

Over 70 forex pairs, from the majors (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY) to exotic pairs that you rarely see on other platforms. If you want to try trading USD/ZAR or EUR/TRY, it’s there.

Spreads from 0.0 pips on the Raw account or from 1.0 pips on the Standard. And in the demo, the spreads are representative of the real ones, which is not always the case with competing brokers who “pretend” demo spreads to make everything look rosy.

Leverage up to 1:500, one of the highest you will find. Be warned: this means you can control large positions with small capital, but the double-edged nature of leverage is that it magnifies both profits and losses.

FP Trading AI, a pretty interesting feature that analyzes your trading behavior and gives you personalized opinions on your strategy. Amazing for learning from your mistakes in the demo before repeating them with real funds.

The FP Trading Tutorial You Must Follow in the Demo

Many people open a demo account, look at the charts for 10 minutes, randomly click a button, see that they “won”, and think that forex is easy. This is the most dangerous trap of demo trading.

To get real value from the FP Trading tutorial experience, follow a structured approach:

Start with small positions, even if you have $100,000 virtual, act as if you only have $1,000. This gives you a representative picture of how you will really feel.

Next, study how leverage works. Open a 0.1 lot position in EUR/USD and watch how your P&L moves for each pip. This exercise, typically 15-20 minutes of observation, gives you a sense of risk.

Then, explore the analysis tools. FP Trading gives you access to Trading Central, a professional technical analysis tool that provides signals and analysis for hundreds of assets. It’s worth exploring in the demo.

And finally, try setting Stop Loss and Take Profit on every trade. This habit, if cultivated in the demo, will save you from pocket change when you go live.

Demo Trading vs Live Trading: The Psychology That Traps You

Here I want to be honest with you, because it’s something that very few FP Trading tutorial guides mention.

Demo trading has a fundamental problem: it’s free, so your brain doesn’t take it seriously. You can open a $50,000 position in the demo and if you lose, you just close the window. It doesn’t hurt. But when it’s really $500, and that position starts losing, your “fight or flight” system kicks in and you make completely different decisions.

This doesn’t mean that demo trading isn’t worth it. It means that demo trading is great for learning mechanics and testing strategies, but it doesn’t fully prepare you for the psychology of live trading.

That’s why many traders, when they switch from demo trading to live trading, start with very little capital, even if they have impressive results in the demo.

What Does Trustpilot Say About FP Trading? (The Negatives You Should Know)

I won’t just tell you the good stuff in this section. I took the time to look at reviews and objectively address what’s out there.

FP Trading has a 4.9/5 rating on Trustpilot based on hundreds of reviews, which is impressive for a broker. However, as with any broker, there are complaints that come up with some frequency:

The issue of regulation. FP Trading operates under the regulatory authorities of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (FSA), St. Lucia (FSRA), South Africa (FSCA), and Mauritius (FSC). This is legal and trustworthy, but it doesn’t compare to brokers that are regulated by the FCA (UK), ASIC (Australia), or CySEC (Cyprus/EU), regulators that offer stricter protection for the individual investor.

It is also not available in the US, Israel, New Zealand, and several other countries.

If you are in these regions, you will not have access.

The Positives That Set FP Trading Apart

To balance the picture, there are some real points where FP Trading excels:

$1 million insurance through Lloyd’s of London. This is unusual for a broker in its category, most brokers do not offer this level of extra protection for client funds.

Lloyd’s of London is one of the most trusted names in the insurance industry worldwide.

When are you ready to go from Demo to Live?

This is a question worth asking yourself, and the answer is not “when I win consistently in demo.”

You are ready for live trading when:

You fully understand what leverage, margin call, and spread mean, not in theory, but because you have experienced them in demo trading. You have a strategy that you follow consistently, not random trades that sometimes go well. You always know the risk per trade before you open a position. And you have decided that the money you are going to invest is money you can afford to lose, because in CFDs and forex, that is always a real possibility.

If you have not been demo trading for at least 4-6 weeks consistently, it is too early to go live. Even if you think you have figured out how it works, the market always has surprises that only time can reveal.

Frequently Asked Questions about the FP Trading Demo Account

How long does the demo account last?

FP Trading does not specify a specific expiration date for the demo account, you can keep it active as long as you need. However, many brokers deactivate demo accounts after extended inactivity (30-60 days without login). If you use it, log in regularly.

Do I need a card to open a demo?

No. The demo is completely free and does not require any financial information.

Can I have a demo and live account at the same time?

Yes. This is actually a great practice, you have a live account for your main trades and a demo to try out new strategies without messing them up.

Are the prices in the demo real?

Yes, spreads and prices in the demo reflect real markets. However, order execution (slippage, requotes) may be slightly different than in live trading, especially during periods of high volatility.

What is the difference between Demo FP Trading vs Demo FP Markets?

This is a common confusion, they are two completely separate companies. FP Trading (fptrading.com) is not related to FP Markets (fpmarkets.com). Their regulations, ownership, and products are independent. Here you will see the differences.

Is the FP Trading Demo Account worth it?

If you are looking for a forex demo account that is quick to open, works on professional platforms (MT4, FP Trading MT5, cTrader), and gives you a real picture of the market at no cost, then yes, the FP Trading demo account is a very good choice for 2026.

It is not perfect. Regulation by Tier-1 authorities is absent, the educational material could be richer, and the absence of markets like the US limits accessibility.

But for a global audience, the combination of competitive spreads, $1 million insurance, three platforms, and a free demo account that works without paperwork and bureaucracy, is a strong package.

The best thing you can do is open it now, spend real time in it, and judge for yourself. A demo account does not bind you to anything, but it can save you from many mistakes later.

CFDs are complex financial instruments and carry a high risk of losing your capital rapidly due to leverage. The majority of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. Make sure you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your capital.
