You know that feeling you get when you put money in the bank and just hope that nothing happens to the bank?
In the world of crypto, that feeling is multiplied tenfold.
You hear stories about people who lost millions because an exchange went bankrupt or someone stole their password.
And you wonder: is there a way to keep your crypto really safe, without needing a computer science degree?
Yes. It’s called Tangem Wallet.
This article is the most comprehensive guide to Tangem, from what it is to how to set it up and use it every day. If you are a complete beginner, you don’t need to have ever heard the word “cold wallet” in your life. Everything is explained here from the beginning.
If you want to get the Tangem wallet, you can from here.

Imagine a card. Exactly the size of your credit card, just as thin (1mm thick, 6 grams in weight). It looks simple from the outside but you can also buy it with a design or a logo.
But inside it hides something that no hacker in the world can touch your crypto.
This is the Tangem Wallet. A hardware wallet in the shape of a card, which communicates with your mobile phone via NFC (the same technology used by contactless payment of your card). It has no battery, no screen, no buttons. All you do is touch it to your phone.
The company behind it, Tangem AG, is based in Switzerland (in Zurich, also known as “Crypto Valley”), has been operating since 2017 and has a presence in North America, Eastern Europe and Asia.
Before we get into the details, you need to understand something fundamental. When you buy Bitcoin or Ethereum from an exchange (e.g. Binance, Bybit, Coinbase), the coins are not technically yours. They are in the exchange’s account. You just have a username and password.
If the exchange goes down, gets hacked, or freezes accounts, and it has happened many times, your money could be gone. Remember FTX in 2022? Millions of users lost everything they had in a matter of days.
A hardware wallet solves this problem. Your private keys are stored inside the physical object and never go online. Even if your phone gets hacked, even if you download a malicious file, the keys are locked to the card chip.

The most well-known hardware wallets are Ledger and Trezor. They look like small USB devices or old console games. They have a screen, buttons, and connect to the computer with a cable.
Tangem is radically different:
Tangem:
Ledger / Trezor:
For a beginner who wants simplicity, portability, and low price, Tangem wins. For power users who want to do DeFi from a desktop with lots of integrations, Ledger has advantages.
The chip inside the card is a Samsung S3D232A with EAL6+ (Common Criteria) certification. EAL6+ is the highest level of security used in biometric passports and bank cards. For comparison, Ledger has EAL5+. Tangem is one level higher.
What does this mean? It means that even if someone gets their hands on your card and takes it to a lab to try to extract your keys, the chip resists. It is designed to destroy the keys if it detects an attempted breach.
Amazing Durability
Independent Security Audits
Two independent cybersecurity firms have audited Tangem’s code and hardware:
Both confirmed that there are no hidden “backdoors” or vulnerabilities. The app is also open source, available on GitHub for anyone to check out.
Every hardware wallet traditionally asks you to write down on a piece of paper 12 or 24 words, the “seed phrase” or “recovery phrase.” These words are your master backup. If your device is lost, you can use these words to recover all your crypto.
The problem? These words are also your biggest risk. If someone finds them, even if they don’t have your device, they can take all your crypto.
Tangem offers a different logic: the card itself is your backup. The private keys are created inside the chip and never come out, not even during setup. You buy a set of 2 or 3 cards, and they all share the same keys. Lose one card? You use the other. All perfectly synchronized from the beginning.
Important note: If you lose all your cards at once without a seed phrase, there is no recovery. That’s the trade-off. That’s why it’s recommended to keep the cards in different places.
If you want the traditional model with a seed phrase, Tangem also supports it, but it is optional, not mandatory.
More than 6,000 tokens on over 81 blockchains. Including:
To buy the wallet you can from the official website tangem.com, always buy from here.
This way you avoid the risk of buying a fake or tracked card.

Prices (2026):
For beginners, the set of 3 cards is the best choice because it gives you 2 backups.
After completing the purchase within 7 to 10 days the package will have arrived. Now to do the installation you will need.
If you don’t know if your mobile has NFC: Settings → Search for “NFC” → If the setting appears, you have it.
Next step: Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and search for “Tangem”. Download only the official Tangem AG app. Be careful, there are fake apps with similar names.
Open the app. You will see a large “Scan Card” button.

Place the card on the back of your phone:
Hold it steady for 2-3 seconds until the card “comes alive”. You will feel or hear a small “beep” or vibration. This means that the NFC has read the card.

If it is not detected: try moving the card a little, a few centimeters up or down. Each phone has a slightly different location for the NFC antenna.
You will click the Create wallet button and scan the same card again as before.

After you set up the first card, the app will ask you to add backup cards. Scan the remaining cards one by one. The system securely transfers the keys from all three cards at the same time.

Note: This must be done during setup. You cannot add a backup card later if you started with 2 cards. If you want 3, set up all three from the beginning.
When you are done, you have 3 cards that all act as your wallet. Keep one in your wallet, one at home, and one in a safe place (e.g. with a friend or a safe).
Finally, it will ask you to write a password so that you can log in every time. YOU SHOULD NOT FORGET THIS CODE, BUT NO ONE ELSE SHOULD KNOW IT.

From the app’s home page, tap “+” or “Add token.” Search for the cryptocurrency you’re interested in, e.g. “Bitcoin” or “Solana,” and add it.

The app will now show you a wallet address, which is your “address & QR” on the blockchain. Like an IBAN for crypto.

Be careful when . you make the deposit with the solana network , it must be from the solana network to the solan network.
Do not transfer from the ERC20 network to the solana network the crypto will be lost.
the best thing you can do is transfer $10-$20 and see if the crypto arrives properly.
Remember at the beginning of the article when I asked if there was a way to keep your crypto safe without a computer science degree? The answer is Tangem.
It’s not perfect, but for the beginner who wants to get their crypto off an exchange and keep it safe in the simplest way possible, Tangem is the best there is in 2026.
Setup takes 10 minutes. The security is unbeatable for the category. The price is reasonable. And every time you tap your card to approve a transaction, you’ll feel something that no exchange gives you: control of your money is in your hands.
Not your keys, not your coins, they say in the crypto world. With Tangem, the keys are finally yours.
If you want to read other articles, here is the list.
Nothing happens. You are using your backup card. You can order a new card from Tangem and connect it as a new backup.
Crypto is not on the phone, it’s on the blockchain. You download the app on a new phone, scan the card, and continue as normal.
Without your access code, the card does nothing. Furthermore, after several incorrect code entry attempts, the card is blocked.
Your private keys are yours and stored on the card. The app is open source. Even if Tangem disappears, you can import your keys into another wallet (if you have a seed phrase) or use community-built versions of the app.
A wearable hardware wallet in the shape of a ring. It works just like cards, you touch your finger to your phone to approve transactions. It costs ~150€ and is aimed at those who want to have the security of crypto always with them.
